Lesions Detection and Characterization by Using Contrast Media

CnTI - Contrast Tuned Imaging technology

CnTI (Contrast Tuned Imaging) is Esaote’s advanced technology for Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound (CEUS) Imaging. Based on low mechanical index and real-time scanning, CnTI is an ideal way to use second generation contrast media.

CnTI can be used for diagnosis and follow up, as well as during the interventional procedure:

Thanks to the inclusion of eHD CrystaLine Technology Advanced Architecture (based on Linear Pulser Technology), Esaote’s MyLabTwice Ultrasound system is capable of managing all pulsing techniques in order to optimize the beamforming management of any transducer typology or clinical application. This advanced technical capability enables first class Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound Imaging: Esaote CnTI.

As Esaote produces most of its own probes, each probe-system interface is optimized in terms of tuning and signal management. This makes for an extremely high signal to noise ratio and resolution/penetration optimization within contrast imaging.

High sensivity, deep penetration and high resolution are common characteristics of CnTI Technology on Convex, Linear, Phased Array. Special probes (Endocavity, Transrectal, Intraoperative and Volumetric) are available for a wide range of clinical applications.

DCTI - Decorrelated Contrast Tuned Imaging technology

In addition to the traditional Flash mode for rupturing of contrast agent bubbles, Esaote CnTI offers a unique DCTI function (Decorrelated Contrast Tuned Imaging), which automatically captures the breaking frame and decorrelates the signal, thus eliminating all artifacts by increasing sensitivity in the late phase. DCTI is designed to maximize contrast information, even during the late phase. By using specific decorrelation software and combining the technique with a low and high mechanical index, DCTI is able to detect even the weakest information from low concentrations of contrast agent that are still in circulation more than 5 minutes after the bolus injection.

DCTI Technology is characterized by:

  • High-Power transmission to destroy the micro-bubbles, registering the signal coming from them, and saving the first frame after their destruction.
  • Diagnostic information optimization by applying a decorrelation algorithm and combining low and high mechanical index technologies

DCTI Technology increases the ability to distinguish between a signal coming from static tissue and contrast agent bubbles inside the vessels.

CnTI is characterized by:

  • High Sensitivity – it detects and visualizes all the lowest intensity signals.
  • High Homogeneity – it offers the same representation for signals coming from same vessels or same tissues.
  • High Spatial Resolution – it offers the possibility to identify very small structures (both hyperechoic and hypoechoic).
  • High Temporal Resolution - it allows the user to follow both the arterial and the portal phase by Real-time detailed analysis.

Esaote CnTI within Virtual Navigator Real-time Multimodality Fusion Imaging technology

Virtual Navigator technology represents Esaote’s advanced, real-time ultrasound navigation and fusion imaging tool which enables users to perform real-time fusion imaging with a wide range of secondary imaging modalities, as well as volumetric ultrasound. Virtual Navigator provides the ability to perform dual modality fusion imaging, as well as giving improved high anatomical definition in MRI/CT. It also yields improved Doppler capabilities and hemodynamic evaluations for US – all in real-time. Furthermore, PET/CT can be combined with real-time ultrasound to enable a combination of 3 types of modality; an offering that is unique to Esaote.

The ability to see in real-time anatomical structures observed at different times and obtained using different physical principles and technologies means the user can see ‘live’ what he/she would normally only be able to imagine.

Virtual Navigator requires no additional radiation, is low cost, easy to use, and can be used both for diagnosis and interventional procedures - within everyday clinical practice as well as in research and teaching.

CnTI Data can be fused with MRI, CT, PET, 3D Ultrasound and/or 3D CEUS volumes.

Different types of real-time fusion imaging can be achieved, depending on the information the operator wishes to obtain/highlight.

  • 2D B-Mode / 3D CEUS – Real-time B-Mode scanning fusion with CnTI Volume enables constant CEUS anatomical references during interventional procedures; no registration is needed, and it can be performed using 2D and 3D probes.

  • 3D CEUS / Second imaging modality - CEUS Volumes real-time fusion with second modality volumes (MRI, CT, PET and/or 3D Ultrasound)

  • 2D CEUS / 3D CEUS - Fusion imaging: real-time CEUS images fused with a pre-acquired CEUS Volume (very useful, for instance, for pre/post treatment evaluation)
